Affiliate Disclosure

Effective date: 15 October 2026

Wideshift is free to read and carries no advertising. It is paid for by commission on affiliate links. This page explains that arrangement in full, because a reader deserves to know who is paying before they weigh what they are reading.

How the money works

Janaland, s.r.o., the publisher of this site, takes part in an affiliate programme for Star Stable Online, an online horse-riding game. The programme is run through an affiliate network, which is the company that operates the link and keeps the records. When somebody follows one of our affiliate links and then signs up, the programme pays us a commission.

From the programme material we work from, commission can arise on a sign-up, on a first play session and on a sale. We are not told who any individual reader is, and we do not ask: what reaches us is a count and an amount, used to reconcile payment.

You pay nothing extra for using the link. The price you would pay on the vendor's site is the price you pay, and you can reach the same site by typing its name into a search engine if you prefer — the course works identically either way.

Where the affiliate links appear

There are three of them, and they are always marked with a line of text beside the link saying what they are:

  • On the homepage, in the section explaining where the brand appears in the course.
  • In Step 3, where it is offered as a real site to practise reading terms on.
  • In Step 5, where the same five steps are applied to that product.

Every affiliate link goes straight to the destination in the address bar. There is no redirect of our own, no script that swaps the address, no interstitial page and no pop-up. Each is marked for search engines as sponsored and opens in a new tab so you do not lose your place in the course. Every other link on this site — to regulators, to our own pages — is an ordinary link we are not paid for.

What the commission does not decide

It does not decide what the five steps say. The sequence, the questions in Step 3 and the checklists were written to be useful whether or not a reader ever follows a link, and we would be embarrassed by a course that only made sense if you bought something.

It does not decide which products are mentioned. Where we name a product, we say why it is there — in this case, because we are paid to link to it. There is no hidden list of paid mentions dressed up as neutral examples.

It does not produce a ranking, a score or a recommendation, because a site with a commission on one product is not in a position to tell you honestly that it is the best one. You will not find "the best", "number one" or a star rating anywhere on Wideshift.

It does not change what we say about the product. We state only what the programme material states: that it is an online horse-riding game and that commission arises on a sign-up, a first play session and a sale. The material does not state prices, device requirements, content or an age position, so we do not state them either, and the course sends you to the vendor's own pages to find out.

What does decide the content

Three things. First, the decisions a household actually has to make, which is why there are five steps and not fifteen. Second, what can be checked: statements about Australian law, classification and online safety link to the regulator that publishes them, and statements about a product come from that vendor's own material or are marked "not stated". Third, whether the course still works with every affiliate link deleted — a test we apply at each review, because if the answer were no, the course would be an advertisement with a reading list attached.

The editorial method on our About page sets out the full working method, including how the course is structured and how often it is reviewed.

Trademarks

All brand names on Wideshift, Star Stable Online among them, are the property of their owners. Except for the paid affiliate links described on our funding page, none of those owners is affiliated with Wideshift, and none has endorsed or sponsored it.

If you would rather not use the links

That is entirely reasonable and costs you nothing. Search for the product name yourself and read the vendor's site directly. The checklists, the six questions in Step 3 and everything else on this site remain available, free, and unchanged. We would rather have a reader who finished the course and bought nothing than a reader who clicked without reading.
